Summer 2010
Posted: 10th June, 2011
I’ve had a busy but great summer – though it seems a long time ago now – playing at quite a number of festivals as well as the usual club and concert dates. There were so many highlights for me, but certainly a couple of them (that I can still remember!) were collaborations that provided a brilliant close to my summer season: first of all, being joined by Jackie Oates at one of my concerts at Whitby Folk Festival (unannounced, to the surprise of the audience) to play the tracks from my new album that she featured on; and second, joining John McCusker, Heidi Talbot, and Boo Hewerdine at a concert for the Edinburgh Festival and having their moving accompaniment on my singing of ‘The Jute Mill Song’. Great stuff and a real privilege.
It was particularly exciting touring around this summer as I was clutching copies of my new, debut album ‘Rags & Robes’, which was officially released on Fellside Records in August. I’m really pleased with how the album has been received so far in the press, on the radio, and of course most importantly amongst fellow folk enthusiasts and gig-goers. If I can boast of just a few wee responses in the media so far - and no one can stop me because this is my blog! ;-): the album was given a four-star review in MOJO magazine and featured as their ‘Folk Album of the Month’; it has been chosen as ‘Album of the Week’ on several radio stations; it was also given four-stars in Maverick magazine and R2 (Rock n Reel), who called “the entire album an unalloyed delight”. There are plenty of quotes and excerpts from these reviews and others on my website - ‘Rags & Robes’ is, of course, also still available to buy from my website – http://www.ewanmclennan.co.uk/product/shop
With the summer most definitely over now (here in Leeds anyway) I’m looking forward to an exciting autumn/winter. This weekend I’m embarking on a short tour of Scotland with Stonehaven as my starting point before I move onto Edinburgh, Glasgow and Oban. Hopefully I’ll see a lot of the friendly faces I always look forward to when I go back up to Scotland. After that I have a date in London at the legendary Cecil Sharp House followed by one in Southport before I go gallivanting off to Holland in early November for what will be the first foreign tour.
Along with next summer’s festivals starting to be announced, I’m regularly adding dates to my gig list so check my website and with a bit of luck I’ll be over your way before long.
Have a great autumn, all the best and I hope to see you on my travels.
